One Sixty was a vegan / vegetarian cafe situated on Lower St James’s Street, Burnley – at the heart of what is currently the town’s 'Heritage Action Zone'. It was established by then Burnley based artist Jai Redman in 2017 on the premises of the former Red Triangle Cafe, which for 30 years provided a gathering place for artists, activists and the town’s alternative community.
Over the years it played a vital role in the local community, hosting bands, exhibitions and political gatherings. One Sixty has provided much needed space for workshops and meetings with Super Slow Way, Burnley Light Night, Mid Pennine Arts, Burnley Literature Festival and Burnley Creative Alliance's Openings project.
While it existed, the kitchens operated as a not-for-profit community cafe and partnered with the local Green Party to help provide a ‘pay-it-forward’ scheme and free Christmas dinners to customers in need.
The cafe became it’s own independent project in the end, but was forced to close permanently by the Covid-19 pandemic.
We remain proud of our building's past, the vital space it provided over many decades to Burnley's underground and alternative scenes, its radical red and green politics and the role it has played in fighting racism and exclusion.
