Duration: September 2024-December 2025
Location: 123 St James Street Burnley
Four Artist Residencies running consecutively in 123 engaging with place, people, and their practice with curiosity, openness and intent.
Each artist will approach the residency opportunity in their own unique way. They will bring themselves, their skills and expertise to explore the possibilities of what might be possible. They are invited to approach the opportunity with both ambition and pragmatism.
To embrace the belief and challenge that Art has a place in the everyday and is for everyone. This is the spirit and energy behind the opportunity.
The residences are part of a 15 month project to test out how 123 St James Street can best work for local artists and the community as a space to connect, create, learn and grow. The residencies will explore approaches and methods that encourage meaningful engagement. Success will be measured by the quality of the work itself, its impact and resonance on participants / collaborators, and the possibilities for legacy and future development by participants within the town’s community. Success may also be measured by the possibility of creative failure through best endeavour - by the lessons learnt and lessons shared.
The artists will be supported by the 123G team and each residency by a partner organisation, providing local knowledge, network and specific organisational expertise.
We have selected 3 artists and a fourth will be chosen through open call, supported by Super Slow Way.
