How We Work

Creative Spaces Burnley - Your Partner in contemporary art practice

Our programme at the Salon and OneTwoThree is developed through working with our members and partners. We work closely with local organisations and artists, developing strong relationships over a period of time, that lead to creative and impactful collaborations, sharing ideas and fundraising opportunities to realise activities, events and exhibitions.

Our focus is on contemporary visual art and supporting artists working professionally in that field. We are self–funded and are not in receipt of any regular funding from Arts Council, the local Authority or others. Every initiative is project funded and we rely on the goodwill and support of local volunteers.

We ask that if you want to support our work that you email us about volunteering opportunities (address below).

If you have a proposal for working with us, on a project or exhibition, opportunities to collaborate will be published here on this page, or shared on our social media (links below). We are a very small team and not able to respond to unsolicited proposals from individuals outside of our scheduled opportunities programme.

Please also note that we are not a commercial gallery and our spaces are not for hire as commercial gallery or sales space. Showing work with Creative Spaces Burnley is available to members only through our programmes or via our partnerships with external arts organisations or our Open Call Exhibition (dates to be confirmed in 2026).

Follow us on Instagram or Facebook (links are below in the website footer).

Creative Spaces Burnley's Mission

Help us fill this town with artists

Creative Spaces Burnley CIC is a small, not for profit locally run art organisation, founded by artist Jai Redman. It is run by artists, for artists, in Burnley, Lancashire.

Creative Spaces Burnley exists to use art to transform people's lives. Our stated objective being “the advancement of the visual arts through subsidised and affordable quality studio provision.” – but it's about more than studio spaces!  We want to work with Burnley artists and makers with a contemporary practice at all stages of their careers and act as their advocates with relevant local partners, including the Borough Council, private landlords and funding organisations.

The CIC holds a long lease of the premises of 123–125 Lower St James’s Street (OneTwoThree) with the Local Authority in return for providing space to visual artists, particularly those who have experienced prejudice, or are from a community that has suffered from societal neglect. Creative Spaces Burnley also manages studios and exhibition space at 160 Lower St James’s Street (the Salon) and runs free art activities, workshops and pop-up events across the town. We try at all times to foster a caring, inclusive and supportive atmosphere at our spaces and events. Our spaces are small and we are always looking for ways to expand our offer.

Our current programmes are supported by an Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant. Our buildings’ refurbishments have benefitted from generous support from Historic England and the Government’s Levelling Up funds.

We are grateful to all who supported the development of our spaces, especially Nick Hunt, Creative Director of Mid Pennine Arts - OneTwoThree's founding members. We would also like to acknowledge the continual hard work and support of Burnley Borough Council's Development Team.

Creative Spaces Burnley were honoured with a Burnley Civic Trust Excellence Award for the restoration works on its buildings in 2025.

Jai Redman received the best Independent Creative Award at the Culture Burnley Awards in 2024.
