OneTwoThree is right in the centre of town and is the flagship project of Creative Spaces Burnley. Opened in 2025, the building is a restored shop on St James's Street, the central two units of the old Empire Buildings, originally built by the Corporation of Burnley in the 1930s.
The space has a ground floor gallery with a coffee bar and accessible toilet. This area is open and free to use by the public, it can be hired for exhibitions and events and hosts regular art shows by local artists, our commissioned and resident artists and members.
The upper two floors are reserved for members and consist of large open plan shared desk spaces, meeting rooms, artist residency studios, a reading room and art library. We continue to add to and adapt the spaces - recently adding a photography darkroom to the basement. The first floor has an incredible floor to ceiling north facing skylight and is a perfect flexible room for art classes, drawing, painting – and yoga!
We are proud of our unique and stunning building. Derelict for a number of years, OneTwoThree has been painstakingly restored, including all the original stained glass windows, through a partnership between Burnley Borough Council and Historic England. Creative Spaces Burnley was awarded a long lease to run the space for working local artists, as studios and a creative hub, through a competitive tender process.
